The ugly ad that beat the fancy ones

The ugly ad that beat the fancy ones

The ugliest ad we ever ran was one sentence on a blue box. No photos. No video. No fancy design.

It got 276 parents to express interest. Under $3 each.

Meanwhile, clubs are paying photographers and videographers for high production ads that don’t perform half as well.

Here’s the lesson. Production value is not what makes an ad work. Five things do:

  1. Does it stop the scroll?
  2. Does it say who it’s for?
  3. Is there one clear offer?
  4. Is it easy to believe?
  5. Is there a clear next step?

Run your current ad through those five checks. If it fails two or more, that’s your problem.

The blue box ad ticked all five. That’s why it worked.
